Travel to Arendal

TRAIN

There are trains to Arendal station. Read more about timetables and prices at www.entur.no.

BUS

There are express buses to Harebakken bus terminal from Kristiansand, Stavanger, Oslo etc. From Harebakken there is a local bus to Arendal city center.

AIRPLANE

Nearest airpart is Kristiansand lufthavn Kjevik (KRS). From her you must take the bus to Kristiansand (local route 35) and change to train or bus (local route 100). You can find more information here.

Alternatively, you can fly to Sandefjord Airport Torp (TRF). From here you need to take a bus to Fokserød to continue by express bus.

For many people, it will be easier to fly to Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL). From here, there are trains to Oslo where you can change to a train or express bus.

BOAT

You can take a car ferry from Denmark or Sweden, or you can sail your own boat all the way to Arendal.

Car ferries:

  • Hirtshals - Kristisand (Color Line and Fjord Line)
  • Hirtshal - Larvik (Color Line)
  • Strömstad - Sandefjord (Color Line)

If you have your own boat, you can sail all the way to Arendal Harbour.

CAR

There are four parking garages in the mountains around the center of Arendal. All the parking garages are within walking distance of everything going on in the town.

  • Torvet parking garage: Parking at the railway station, approx. 460 spaces
  • Pollen parking garage: Entrance at the intersection Kystveien/Skytebaneveien, approx. 750 spaces
  • P-house Vest (by Alti Arendal): Parking at Vestre gate 11, at Vesterveien 4 and at Myrene by Shell/Kiwi, approx. 750 spaces
  • Tyholmen parking garage: Entrance from Kittelsbukt, 240 spaces

The maximum height is 2.1 m (P-house Vest 2.2 m. Torvet parking garage has five spaces for cars over 2.1 m in height).

Transportation during the festival

The whole festival takes place in the center of Arendal with walking distance between events.

For excursions, there is more detailed information on the event about whether there is a pick-up by bus or boat, and where to meet.

For those who needs to use the bus every day during NORDLEK, we recommend buying the 7 day ticket for Arendal. The easiest is to download the app AKT Billett and buy the ticket there.

You can do this before you arrive in Arendal, but remember to set the ticket to start the day of arrival. You will then have a ticket ready when you arrive by express bus or train. The ticket costs NOK 151 for youth 6-17 years and for seniors 67 years or older. For adults 18-66 years the ticket costs NOK 301.

The app is unfortunately only in norwegian, but you can receive help at the festival office or at the tourist information on arrival.

STINTA SCHOOL

BIRKENLUND SCHOOL

Located approx. 2.2km from the city center. Walking distance. See route in Google maps here.

The nearest bus stops are Birkenlund and Havstad East . See www.akt.no for timetables.

HISØY SCHOOL

Located on Hisøya, approx. 900m from the city center. Not within walking distance.

Hisøy-Arendal by ferry

  1. Walk to Kolbjørnsvik ferry quay (approx. 12 min). See route in Google maps.
  2. Take the ferry from Kolbjørnsvik/Hisøya to Tyholmen ferry quay (Arendal).
    Theferry runs every 20 minutes until 17.30, and then every 30 minutes until midnight.
    There is no ferry on Sundays.

Hisøy-Arendal by bus

Buses 100, 101 and 103 run between His and Arendal city center. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the school to His. See the route in Google maps here.

Bus 103 runs between Vestheibakken and Arendal city center. It takes about 17 minutes to walk from the school to Vestheibakken. The 103 bus does not run as often as the 100 and 101, and stops running earlier in the evening. See the route between Hisøy school and Vestheibakken in Google maps here.
